2017 Furniture Expo visit

Categories: News

Palmerston Furniture & Bedding have recently attended the annual furniture fairs in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta. An ideal opportunity to meet our current suppliers, investigate prospective suppliers and study current furniture trends. Since purchasing CC’s Discount Furniture four years ago, it has been a constant goal to specialise in high quality affordable mattresses and furniture. This was a chance to further improve our range and variety of furniture. Our location in Darwin, the gate way to Asia is also ideal for our wholesale operation Northern Furniture Wholesalers. Utilising low priced back freight from the Top End to southern Australian furniture stores.

MIFF – Kuala Lumpur.  The Malaysian International Furniture Fair participants included leading furniture manufacturers, with over 500 international and Malaysian exhibitors. Palmerston Furniture & Bedding’s main interest at MIFF was the latest trends in dining suites, coffee tables, bedroom and living room furniture.

Nova Classic Furniture are our suppliers of solid timber dining suites. They have an international reputation as Malaysia’s leading manufacturer of high quality hardwood furniture. The booth was excellent, displaying some exciting new models. Rubber wood is the most common material used by Nova. It is a renewable plantation timber, renowned for its strength and appearance. Ideal for dining chairs and tables as it is reasonably priced, looks great and is strong and durable. The relationship between Palmerston Furniture and Nova remains very positive for both parties.

EFE- Kuala Lumpur. The Export Furniture Exhibition had more than 300 exhibitors, including the main Malaysian and many international furniture manufacturers. A strong theme of EFE is the affordable combination of rubber wood and steel furniture.

This was a chance to meet with Ken Yik, our manufacturer from Penang. The Ken Yik range of timber/metal beds have been a very popular range. They provide a strong bed frame at a budget price. We also stock dining sets and coffee tables made from the combination of rubber wood and black powder coated steel. Ideal when you require low priced sturdy furniture.

IFFS- Singapore. The International Furniture Fair Singapore is a truly international furniture expo. With a strong European presence, displaying the latest trends in the world of furniture. Although these themes are not always relevant in the local Darwin market, it is always important to keep up to date. We also took the opportunity to meet up with some more valued suppliers.

AN Khang from Vietnam displayed the latest ranges of solid pine bed frames, bedroom furniture, dining suites and living room furniture. We actually bought the whole collection and shipped it to Darwin.

Casa Italy, our main manufacturer of sofas, lounges and recliners didn’t participate this year as the factory is already running near capacity. Quality and integrity is a hallmark of the Casa Italy brand. The disciplined approach to maintaining an excellent reputation is to always put quality before quantity. It was very reassuring to know the Malaysian factory maintains a rigid devotion the highest standards of the Casa Italy brand.

IIFE- Jakarta. This was our first visit to the Indonesia International Furniture Expo in Jakarta. The close proximity to Darwin makes Indonesia a logical extension to our manufacturing base. Indonesia has an abundance of renewable plantation timber such as mahogany, teak, mindi and pine.

We have short listed two manufacturers as ideal to compliment our range of furniture. Both companies have exciting ranges of high quality contemporary mahogany bedroom and living room furniture.  A factory visit to double check the QA and finalise exact manufacturing standards and requirements will be undertaken by Kristy. Prior to moving to Australia, Kristy was involved in the timber export industry in Indonesia.  Kristy has three years experience with our company, combined with her local knowledge of Indonesia. Kristy will be ideal to ensuring our high quality standards and affordable prices are maintained. Fitting to our motto that ‘price is part of the comfort’.

We look forward to the new furniture collections being in our Yarrawonga showroom prior to the Darwin peak dry season period. Our network of southern wholesale customers also eagerly awaits the new collection of mahogany and teak furniture collections.
